…There are four seasons in a year
And reflections on the water of a burning yellow sphere
And the days add up to weeks add up to months
And add up to years…
(“You Go On Ahead (Trumpet Trumpet II)” by Sunset Rubdown)

This series is a visual representation of a complete year through individual drawings made on each of the 365 days. The first drawing was made on 18th April 2009 and every day that followed was recorded on a piece of A3 paper. I believe that the interaction with the world through drawing is far more enjoyable and meaningful than working from photographs, so every one of these drawings is made from real life, real places and people.

Each day was recorded, no matter how trivial it was, and over the course of the year the style and colour of the drawings changed, reflecting the gradual changes in mood, technique and level of skill. Many of the drawings are far from good, while some I’m really proud of, which is a lot like any given year that has some great days sandwiched between nondescript ones.

As with life, days cannot be edited out, so every single drawing is present in the final layout which is organised like a calendar.
